OdfToTxt: Converter of OpenOffice.org
documents to plain text form

Description

The OdfToTxt is a Win32 console program, which allows to dump plain-text contents of OpenOffice.org documents. The following document extensions are supported:

ODT ODS ODP ODG ODF ODB ODM OTT OTH OTS OTG OTP SXW SXC SXG SXI SXD SXM STW STC STD STI

Note that only the text is extracted from documents, any document formatting is stripped. If you use it with tables, you'll get only the text contained in the tables cells.

It is open source, written in Borland Delphi. The license for code is Mozilla Public License Version 1.1.

Usage

The command line syntax is the following:
  OdfToTxt.exe FileName [ Options ]
where options are:

  • /ANSI -- Write resulting text in ANSI codepage (default is OEM)
  • /NoHead -- Skip document header: title and subject
  • /Out=FileName -- Specify resulting text filename (default is stdout)

Usage in FAR manager

  1. Copy OdfToTxt.exe and unzip32.dll to any folder listed in your %PATH% environment variable.
  2. Go to menu Commands -- File associations, then add association:

    • File mask: *.od?,*.ot?,*.sx?,*.st?
    • View command: view:<OdfToTxt.exe "!\!.!"

That's all - now you may view OpenOffice.org documents by using F3 key.
Note: FAR Commands plugin must be installed for association to work properly.
